You will find resources to solve most problems at the Thayer Birding Software Help Desk.
Common problems you might encounter are listed below.
Installation provides two sounds that play in a quiz for correct and incorrect answers. If they are not playing for you, make sure the entire path in the settings box is correct. The speaker icon will be grayed if the sounds are not in the displayed path.
A Multiple Choice quiz might be slow to load if you have selected a broad range of species having pictures and sound or video as media choices. Multiple Choice quizzes can also be slowed down if you have Allow Clues set to "on".
You may see the error message is "Media not found"
To fix this, make sure the CD is in the CD-ROM drive of your computer, with the printed side facing up. Sometimes you know your CD-ROM is already in the CD-ROM drive or you copied the media to a hard drive. This can happen for various reasons.
You rearranged drive assignments on your computer.
You did not install media to a hard drive during installation, but later decided to copy it to a hard drive.
You have two CD-ROM drives (or equivalents) and use both when loading CD's.
(Try clicking the Retry button on the error message).
In all these cases, you can point the software to the correct path by changing the paths by clicking Tools and then clicking Options and then clicking Media:
Insert the CD-ROM into a drive. If you have copied media to a hard drive, skip this step.
When the error message appears, click Cancel. The eViewer should open with no eField Guide loaded.
From File click Options and then click Media. This opens a dialog box showing you the path used by the software. It might show something like D:\program files\Thayer Birding Software\eViewer 3.9\media\. If this is the path that appears, you have a strange problem. Contact Thayer Birding Software by completing a Help Desk Ticket at www.ThayerBirding.com.
If this is not the path that appears, change it to the path shown above. Or, if you installed the program on a different drive than the D drive, just change the drive letter to the proper letter.
Type the new path with drive, colon, backslash, folder, and so on. Don't forget the last backslash.
It might be easier, if you have copied media to nearly the same path as the Thayer Birding Software folder to copy and paste the Update path and then edit it. Drag across the name in the third path box (Update), press ctrl+c (copy) on your keyboard, click or drag in the Primary path box and delete the existing path, and then press ctrl+v (paste) on your keyboard to copy the path. Then edit the path as needed. Remove the \UPDATE backslash and folder name.
Click OK when finished. A confirmation message appears.
Click on the toolbar to open your Field Guide. If this fails, repeat and look for spelling, backslash, and folder name errors.
